While Richard Edes Harrison usually did splendid
mapwork, this one was a dud: another disservice to Cahill. 1) It split on
the wrong meridian, 30° W rather than 20° W, thereby slicing Australia;
2) the graticule is almost freehand, crude and assymetrical within the triangles
(compare the E. and W corner. equatorial geocells); 3) the gnomonic variant
is not the best general purpose Cahill map, because it cannot assemble the
polar regions |
